If Ed were really honest, he'd say, "I can't take money for doing such a crappy job of pretending to be a reporter anymore. I'm quitting and getting a job I can actually handle".
About a month later he'd be doing 2AM infomercials for Ronco Salad-Shooters, because that's about what he's adapted for mentally.
